With chronic illnesses becoming a common and often expected problem in our society, you might be surprised to learn that green foods can be a big part of the solution. Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, brain fog, and even mental disorders plague the brains of millions of people of each year.
In a world of prescribed medications, it’s easy to overlook the edible solutions that nature has to offer. Plants have their own “pharmacy”, developed over years of survival, defying extinction. Some have become superheroes in the fight. We even call them “super foods”. And here’s an added bonus: You can DRINK many of these green veggies, giving you a lot more nutrients with a lot less bulk.
Fresh, raw vegetables, blended into a refreshing smoothie provides and abundance of brain-healthy nutrition in no time, and can easily become a part of your busy lifestyle. And what better time to start than now, with so many of them in season!
However, we’re not talking about just any kind of smoothie. To make sure your brain gets what it needs (and not what it doesn’t need), you’ll want to make it yourself, putting yourself in charge of the sweeteners, amount of fruit, and avoiding preservatives. Truthfully, if you’re a newbie, you may want to start with more fruit than veggies, but your goal should be to turn that around, weaning yourself away from a majority of fruit and sweeteners as soon as possible.
But, you’ve got to start somewhere, no judgment here! And the more variety of greens, the better! Not sure about your choices? Download the “How Green Is Your Drink?” handout containing a list of brain-healthy greens you can use to create endless smoothie combinations.
