Did you know that researchers have proven that there’s a link between chronic constipation and cognitive decline? I’ve talked a lot about digestive tract issues but I never thought that I would be making a connection between poop and brain health.

About a year ago, researchers at an Alzheimer’s conference reported a 73% higher risk of cognitive decline among people with chronic constipation. They also noted that their brains appear to age three years more in terms of thinking, learning, remembering, reasoning, problem-solving, paying attention, and making decisions.

So, what exactly is chronic constipation? It’s when you go three or more days without a bowel movement or regularly have hard, dry, lumpy stools. This reveals not only a gut-brain connection but also, surprisingly, a poop-brain connection. Researchers are still uncertain why a positive change in your poop is going to result more than likely in a positive change in your brain.

In my upcoming videos, I’ll be teaching more about that with more specifics on factors affecting bowel movements. If you don’t want to miss out, I encourage you to join our Facebook group, “Keep Your Brain Sharp Community,” where I share my videos every week. I regularly share insights and tips there to help you stay informed and proactive about your brain health.
